Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a titled carrier of high abrasion resistance and a long life causing no sticking of toners on carrier surfaces by mixing elastomer having surface tension below specific values and magnetic powder, and granulating the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of elastomer of >=25dyne/cm surface tension selected from silicone elastomer, fluorosilicone elastomer, fluororubber, etc., and magnetic powder such as ferrite powder are mixed, and the mixture is granulated by a method such as spray drying, whereby the intended carrier for electrophotographic developer is obtained. The elastomer of >=24dyne/cm surface tension has the effect of peventing sticking of toners on carrier surface during long-time reiterative use, further absorbing the impact owing to the impingement of the carriers against each other and the impingement of the carriers and the toners, reducing the weight of the carriers per se, and reducing impingement energy. As a result, the abrasion, damage, etc. of the carrier surfaces are prevented.
