Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a carrier for electrophotographic developing of a long life causing no degradation in properties despite long term use by coating nuclear particle surfaces with plural layers of silicone resins in such a way as to have no adhesiveness. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces of carrier nuclear particles are coated with a silicone resin having critical surface tension lower than the surface tension of a soln. for this resin, after which these are baked to allow the resin to set. Thence, the 2nd silicone resin coating layer is further formed by a similar method on the set resin coating layer and thereafter, multiple layer coatings are applied in the similar manner, whereby a titled carrier is prepd. Thereby, >=2 layers of the silicone resin layers on the nuclear particle surfaces are maintained on the nuclear particle surfaces without adhering to the respective upper and lower layers. Even if the outermost coating layer should be broken by mechanical impact or the like, there is no adhesiveness to the coating layer thereunder and therefore only the outermost layer peels, and this exposes the surface of the under layer, thereby restoring the properties of the carrier.
