Abstract
PURPOSE: To deposit and separate the titled substance of high purity easily without the steps of saponification and thermal decomposition treatment, by treating a dark oil and crude fatty acid formed from rice bran as a by-product with an aqueous solution of a metallic salt capable of capturing sterin under given conditions, and keeping the clear oil after removing the impurites at a given temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A dark oil or crude fatty acid formed as a by-product from rice bran as a raw material is mixed with an aqueous solution of a metallic salt capable of capturing sterin, e.g. an aluminum salt such as aluminum sulfate or alum, in an amount of 0.3W20wt% based on the raw material, and the resultant mixture is heated to about 85W100°C with stirring. The temperature is then reduced to about 45°C gradually. The cooled mixture is centrifuged to remove impurities, e.g. sterin captured by the aqueous solution of the metallic salt. After removing the impurities, the clear oily substance is then kept at a maturing temperature of about 30W45°C for a long time to deposit high-melting oryzanol. The titled compound is then separated from the fatty acid.
