Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the dyeability of polyester fibers without carrying out troublesome operations in the dyeing step, by hot drawing undrawn polyethylene terephthalate yarns at a specific draw ratio and temperature, and cold drawing the resultant drawn yarns.
CONSTITUTION: Undrawn yarns 1 consisting of polyethylene terephthalate essentially are drawn between a heated roller 2 and an intermediate roller 6 at a draw ratio corresponding to 0.6W0.9 of the total draw ratio and a temperature of the glas transition point of the undrawn yarns 1 or above, preferably 40W80°C higher than the glass transition point, by a heater 3 in the first drawing step. The yarns 1 are then drawn, cooled to a temperature below the glass transition point by the intermediate roller 6, drawn at the remaining drawn ratio and a temperature below the glass transition point between the roller 6 and a drawn roller 4 in the second drawing step and then wound by a winder 5.
