Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain vessel material quality and improve electrolytic efficiency by using the cooling water of an alkali chloride electrolytic cell provided with a diaphragm and a communicating pipe in the spacing between cathode and anode in process for production of chemicals by an in-situ system. CONSTITUTION:An alkali chloride electrolytic cell 1 is bisected to an anode chamber 5 and a cathode chamber 6 inserted with anode 3 and cathode 4 by means of a synthetic resin made diaphragm 2, and has a cooling coil 11 opening in the chamber 6 past the chamber 5. The concd. salt water of raw material salt enters the chamber 5, from which it is conducted into the chamber 6 by passing through a communicating pipe 10, by which it is partly electrolyzed to form a caustic alkali soln. The gaseous clorine generated in the chamber 5 goes into a chamber 8 through a piping 13, and the catholyte disperses and flows down onto a perforated plate 9 through a pipe 16, thence it is introduced into the chamber 8. The dilute alkali hypochlorite soln. generated through reaction of both is discharged through a pipe 17 into water treatment facilities. Here, cooling water is introduced into the coil 11, whereby the diluting and cooling of the catholyte are accomplished.
