Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent packing deficiency owing to included air in a narrow clearance by using a refractory material which consists essentially of graphite and is kneaded with an org. solvent of specific composition as a spacing packing material for the double staves for cooling a blast furnace.
CONSTITUTION: In cooling the barrel of a blast furnace, a double stave system by copper staves and cast iron staves is incorporated. In this case, a refractory material 2 which is a packing material slightly thicker than a normal spacing is coated in about 10mm clearance between the double staves 1 and 3, and the spacing between both staves is brought in pressure contact to the normal spacing. The excess packing material 2a is projected and removed. The packing material prepd. by adding 30W58 parts an org. solvent of 10W500 centiposes viscosities consisting of a thermosetting resin, ethylene glycol, and ethyl alcohol to 100 parts a mixture consisting of 40W80% graphite, 10W25% refractory chamotte, 5W15% powder pitch, 5W15% refractory clay and 3W8% powder sodium silicate is used.
