Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the quality of the produced quicklime, and to obtain high purity CO2 gas, by using a fuel and oxygen having low nitrogen-content as the heat source of a limestone calcination furnace, recycling a part of the exhaust combustion gas to the calcination furnace, and recovering the remaining gas.
CONSTITUTION: Raw limestone 35 is charged into the limestone calcination furnace 21, and a fuel 26 having low nitrogen-content is burnt as a heat source with oxygen-enriched air or pure oxygen 27. The limestone 25 is calcined in the furnace to obtain quicklime 36. A part of the exhaust combustion gas 29 is recycled by the blower 30 to the calcination furnace 21 to reduce the loss of sensible heat of the exaust gas and to improve the quality of the produced quicklime 36. The remaining part of the exhaust gas 29 is brought inot contact with scrubbing water 38 in the scrubber 22. CaO which is a main component of the dust in the exhaust gas 29 is converted in the scrubber 22 to CaCO3, and removed. The cleaned exhaust gas 34 is stored through the stack 23 in the reservoir 43 as a high purity CO2 gas, and effectively utilized.
