Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare a rubber composition having excellent adhesivity to steel cord and high breaking properties, and especially suitable as a coating rubber of steel cord, by compounding a rubber with an organic acid cobalt salt, sulfur, thiazole type vulcanization accelerator, and m-cresol resin. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of a raw rubber is mixed and kneaded with 0.8- 2pts.wt. of a thiazole type vulcanization accelerator (e.g. 2-mercapto-benzothiazole), 1-15pts.wt. of a m-cresol resin of formula (n is 2-6) having a softening point of 80-120 deg.C, 0.05-0.6pts.wt. (as cobalt) of an organic acid cobalt salt (e.g. cobalt naphthenate) and 3-10pts.wt. of sulfur. The composition exhibits little lowering of adhesivity to steel cord with moisture before and after vulcanization.
