Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a reproduced image having the color reproducibility approximate to the original image, by applying a masking process with a polynomial including the nonlinear term using the density signals of three colors as the variables and compensating the color when a color regenerated image is reproduced. CONSTITUTION:For a color original image 1, the light components of three colors blue, green and red are measured at a photometric part 2 of a color scanner, etc. The signal thus obtained is converted into a density signal through a density converting part 3 to be sent to a masking part 4. At the part 4, the color compensation is carrid out in consideration of the photometric characteristics, the ink properties, etc. so as to reproduce a color image which is faithful to the original image. A nonlinear masking is used for the color compensation, and the non linear masking uses a matrix which uses the color density signal as the variable. In such way, a reproduced image is obtained with the color reproducibility approximate to the original image.
