Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the transitional wear inside an engine by simple measuring operations of filling resins including fluorine to the testing part of the inside of the engine for wear and detecting fluorine in exhaust gas by gas chromatography. CONSTITUTION:Several concavities 4 are formed on a contact surface 2a of a circular valve seat 2 which is arranged on an intake value seat of a cylinder- head 1 of an engine 6 with a valve. ''TEFLON '' 5 is coated on or pressed into these concavities, and the surface of ''TEFLON '' 5 is processed to be on a level with the contact surface 2a. When the engine 6 is started, the worn and scattered powder of ''TEFLON '' is sent to a combustion chamber to generate hydrogen fluoride. This exhaust gas is sampled in a sampling bottle 9 attached at an exhaust manifold 7. Fluorine in the exhaust gas is quantitatively detected by gas chromatography with an electron caputure detector. Thus transitional wear inside the engine can be measured by simple operations.
