Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a sintered composite metal having excellent characteristics, at low cost, by placing the metal net having an intermediate melting point between a high melting point metal and a low melting point metal on one side of porous sintered body of the high melting point metal that has the same size as the net and then by infiltrating them with the low melting point metal.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of a high melting point metal such as W is compression- molded and then is sintered to prepare a porous sintered body. Subsequently, the above-mentioned porous sintered body is placed on the metal net such as iron that melts below the melting point of W and then a metal such as copper or silver that melts below the melting point of iron is added to them for infiltration with copper or silver in an atmosphere of H2 at a temperature e.g. 50W 200°C higher than the melting point of copper or silver. As a result, the opening of the iron net is fieled up with excessive copper or silver and it is possible to infiltrate the porous part of W sufficiently with copper or silver without the need of such mechanical working process as has been adopted in a conventional method.
