Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute the rotational processing of a picture, by encoding and compacting inputted picture data, and executing the rotation processing in a state that its encoded picture data remains encoded. CONSTITUTION:Picture data which has been read by a picture data input device 1 is encoded to a variation point address showing an address of a picture element of a variation to a black picture element from a white picture element, and a variation point to a white picture element from a black picture element, at every line by an encoding circuit 6. The variation point address is converted in order to a binary-coded-decimal number, and is provided to a switching circuit 10 as an encoded output. An operation device 3 switches the switching circuit 10 in accordance with a rotation angle phi of a picture instructed from a rotation instructing device 2. That is to say, it is switched to the side of the first rotation processing circuit 8, and the side of the second rotation processing circuit 9, in case of -54 deg.<=phi<=45 deg., and 45 deg.<1phi1<=90 deg., respectively. The circuit 8 and 9 execute the rotation processing of encoded picture data in accordance with a data provided from the operation device 3, and write it in a picture data memory 4. The contents of storage are read out by a decoder 7.
