Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify and minimize the heat insulating structure of the titled equipment and also to improve the thermal and purifying efficiencies, by additionally disposing a catalyst layer at the upper stream side of the heating means of the catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical catalyst vessel 2 surrounded by a heat insulating material 3 is installed to the center of an outer case 1, and honeycomb catalyst bodies 8 are arranged for plural stages with an appropriate interval. Then, an electric heater 9 to be used for heating catalyst is installed between the 1st stage catalyst body 8a and the 2nd stage catalyst body 8b. A gas to be purified is introduced into the catalyst tank 2 through a path 4 by driving an air blower 6. The gas first contacts with the catalyst body 8a heated by the radiant heat of the heater 9 and the gas is rectified and, at the same time, partially purified by oxidization. Then, the gas is heated by the heater 9, and while the gas passes through the catalyst body 8b heated by the heater 9 and catalyst bodies installed at the upper stages of the catalyst body 8b, harmful gases contained in the gas are almost completely oxidized and purified.
