Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a titled sensor small in size and light in weight and make it strong to vibration and impact by providing a magnetooptic element, an electrooptic element, a polarizing element and a wavelength plate in one piece on a common substrate. CONSTITUTION:The light transmitted through a polarizing element 2 grown epitaxially on a substrate crystal 1 is made into the linearly polarized light polarized in the direction parallel with the substrate. This polarized light enters a magnetooptic element 3, by which it is subjected to the rotation of the plane of polarization by the amount proportional to the magnetic field based on current (i), thence it enters an electrooptic element 4. The voltage to be measured is applied to the electrodes provided on both side surfaces of a waveguide type electrooptic element 4 and the linearly polarized light is elliptically polarized according to the applied voltage. This polarized light is again returned to linearly polarized light by a lambda/4 plate 5. The total of the amounts of rotation of these planes of polarization is detected with an analyzer 2', to detect electric power. Thereby, the sensors having uniform characteristics are obtained in a large quantity and since the controlling of sizes and shapes is easily accomplished, the measuring range of current and voltage is selected freely.
