Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide heat and moisture resistances to a polarizing film while keeping the film equal to a conventional PVA film in uniformity and polarizing power by selectively using a specified polyester and a specified dichromatic dye. CONSTITUTION:Aromatic polyester having >=100 deg.Cm.p. or softening point is used as the base material of a film, and a dichromatic dye having >=1.5 S value and showing dichroism in a mixed liq. crystal consisting of 50wt% p-methoxybenzilidene-p-n-butoxyaniline, 35wt% p-ethoxybenzilidene-p-n-butoxyaniline and 15wt% p-ethoxybenzilidene-p-aminobenzonitrile is arranged in the base material or on the surface in one direction. For example, anthraquinone, azo, styryl, azomethine or cyanine dye is used as the dichromatic dye.
