PURPOSE:To correct the arc distortion of a flat type cathode-ray tube, by forming asymmetrically inside pole pieces arranged oppositely to each other in the direction of the thickness of a flat tube, sandwiching the passage of electron beam of an electron gun arranged by extending it in the direction along the surface of a fluorescent screen. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent screen 2 is arranged on one inside of a flat tube 1, and an electron gun 4 is arranged by extending it in the direction along the surface of the screen 2. A horizontal-vertical deflecting means 6 is composed of a magnetic core 7, an electromagnetic coils 8(a), 8(b) and a pair of inside pole pieces 9(a), 9(b) made of high permeable substance and arranged in the tube 1. The pieces 9(a), 9(b) are formed asymmetrically with regard to the axis of the tube 1 and arranged oppositely to each other so that the magnetic flux density between the pieces 9(a), 9(b) is made smaller toward the piece 9(a) corresponding to the side on which the screen 2 is arranged. Owing to this constitution, the long side of a trapezoid becomes concave, its short side becomes convex, as shown by a pattern C', and the arc distortion of the raster on the screen 2 can be corrected as shown by a mark (a)'.
