Abstract

PURPOSE: A paint for preventing internal reflection of an optical member, highly effective for the prevention of internal reflection, which is obtd. by the incorporation of a metal oxide having refractive index higher than that of the optical member and high blackness.
CONSTITUTION: Optical member 1 such as a lens or prism consists of a lens made of glass of high refractive index of 1.7W1.8 and its side face 1a having a roughly sanded surface which does not transmit light, is coated with internal reflection- preventing paints 2. The paint 2 is prepared by mixing a clear resin obtd. by the copolymn. of a styrenated melamine resin and an acrylic resin, with a metal oxide having high blackness and refractive index of 2.0W3.0 which is higher than that of the optical member 1, as a main pigment. When the paint 2 is applied on side face 1a of the optical member, most of incident light 3 is not reflected as reflected light 4 but refracted as refracted light 5 toward the paint 2 and absorbed in the paint 2. Consequently, internal reflection rate is reduced and internally reflected light is sufficiently absorbed.
