Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare the titled glass wherein the evaporation of a dopant is extremely reduced, by exposing a solid solution body of SiO2-dopant made of rock crystal powder and fine powder of silica glass to an atmosphere gas comprising SiCl4 and steam, and making it transparent. CONSTITUTION:The rock crystal powder or fine powder 31 of SiO2 glass is exposed to a gas such as GeCl4 at 500-1,000 deg.C, and the solid liquid glass layer 32 kof SiO2-GeO2 is formed on the surface of the fine powder 31. The glass fine powder containing the glass layer 32 is exposed to an atmosphere gas comprising SiCl4 and steam 500-1,200 deg.C, and glass fine powder consisting of the SiO2 glass fine powder 51, the glass layer 52 of SiO2-dopant solid solution body, and the SiO2 glass layer is formed. The glass fine powder is then melted under heating, for example, 1,500-1,700 deg.C, and processed into transparent glass, to prepare the desired doped silica glass.
