Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and to recover valuable metals in high yield, by leaching an oxidized and burnt waste catalyst containing Mo, V, Co, Ni, etc. with a mineral acid, precipitating the metals from the leached solution by 4 processes selectively.
CONSTITUTION: A waste catalyst containing valuable metals, e.g., Mo, V, Co, Ni, etc. is oxidized and burnt at about ≥750°C to give oxides and sulfides, which are leached with a mineral acid. Hydrogen sulfide gas is introduced into the leached solution, and Mo in the solution is precipitated and filtered. An alkali agent is added to the filtrate, which is adjusted to a pH of 4.5W5.5 and a precipitate containing V and Al is separated by filtration. An alkali agent is further added to the filtrate, which is adjusted to a pH of 8.5W9.5, and a precipitate containing Co and Ni is separated by filtration. An alkali agent is added to the filtrate separated by filtration, the filtrate is adjusted to a pH≥10, all the remaining valuable metals are precipitated, the precipitate is returned to the first process and leached with a mineral acid again.
