Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable prevention of any short circuit which might be caused due to moved plates or the like by interposing a folded separator between a positive and a negative electrode, and pressing the folded part of the separator, which is projected above the plates, so as to make the top of the plates to be covered with the pressed part. CONSTITUTION:A folded separator 3 principally consisting of glass fiber is interposed between a positive plate 1 and a negative plate 2. Folded parts 8 of the separator 3 are projected above top surfaces 9 of the plates 1 and 2. After that, the folded part 8 is pressed to form projections 8' which extend sideways, thereby making the top surfaces 9 to be covered with the projections 8'. Since the projections 8' are wide, and part of the non-woven fabric is raveled when it is pressed during the expansion work, electrolyte rapidly permeates into the entire separator 3 placed between the plates 1 and 2.
