PURPOSE:To exposure photosensitive materials to make materials always provided with prescribed photographic densities irrespectively of exposure time, by compensating the referential set value of the automatic exposure controlling device by generating a signal which compensates declines in the photographic density of photosensitive materials. CONSTITUTION:When an X-ray irradiate signal is impressed upon a controlling device 8 from an X-ray generating device, the counter of the device 8 starts working and an address of an ROM of a memory section 7 forming a compensate signal generating means is assigned. When the address is assigned, the reference value compensation information read out from the memory section 7 is added to a reference value setting section 3 through a D/A converter 6, and the set reference value is compensated through tip selections of the memory section 7 by an information setting 9 in accordance with declines in the photographic density of photosensitive materials of reciprocity law failure. Then, the compensated set reference value becomes a reference signal for a comparator 4, to which a detect signal corresponding to the strength of the X-ray passing through the subject is added, and generations of an X-ray stop signal is controlled. Therefore, automatic exposure controls are performed so that photosensitive materials may be exposed to always have prescribed photographic densities irrespective of exposure times.
