Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a titled cylinder with a flange by placing a separately formed flange on a blank cylindrical body which is subjected to induction heat treatment and is thereby hardened of its inside surface, and welding these while cooling the inner and outer sides of the blank cylindrical body properly.
CONSTITUTION: A heating means by an annular high frequency inductor is disposed on the outside surface side of a blank cylindrical body 1, and a cooling means which supplies water to the heating part on the inside surface side, and both means are moved in the longitudianl direction of the bocy 1 to apply hardening and tempering, whereby the inside surface of the body 1 is hardened. This body 1 is tentatively fixed with a separately formed flange 2, and is set on a stand 5 such a way that the weld part of the flange 2 is not submerged in the coolant 4 in a vessel 3. Also, a coolant injecting jacket 7 is located in the position opposite to the flange 2 in the body 1, and under injection of the coolant, the body 1 and the flange 2 are welded so that the influence of welding upon the hardness of the inside surface of the body 1 is eliminated.
