PURPOSE:To obtain a mold of uniform hardness and good quality by packing sand contg. a gas hardenable binder in a pattern box, making the pressure in the box negative, and sucking the gas of a gas producer therein thereby hardening the sand. CONSTITUTION:Molding sand 8 contg. a gas hardenable binder is packed in a pattern box delineated by a pattern plate 1 and a molding flask 6, and a cover member 9 is placed. Thereupon, a stop valve 17 is opened, and a vacuum pump is operated to reduce the pressure in the pattern box through a decompression chamber 2 and vent holes 3, after which the valve 17 is closed. When a stop valve 17 is opened after this, hardening gas from a gas producer 13 is filled in the pattern box through a conduit 14, a cap 12 and a supply port 11, whereby the sand 8 is hardened surely and uniformly.
