Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generating of a scanning track due to a relative position shift between a laser beam and a photoreceptor, by detecting the intensity of a latent image by the laser beam and by controlling the intensity of the laser beam according to the detection result. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam 15 from a laser generator 13 is passed through a polygon reflecting mirror 17 and an f.theta lens 19 to scan on a photosensitive drum 21. A potential sensor 61 detects the potential of a latent image formed by scanning the laser beam, and according to the detected level, a laser current driver 33 is controlled throught a controller 65 to control the beam intensity. Therefore, even when the laser beam can not scan on the photoreceptor accurately owing to vibrations, etc., the generation of a scanning track is prevented by controlling the intensity of the laser beam.
