Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent an open caisson body to be over-sunk into a soft sea bed, and to perform a reliable sinking of the body, by a method wherein an internal pressure, produced under its own weight, is applied as a reaction force to an under surface of a partition isolating the upper part of the inside of the open caisson body from the lower part.
CONSTITUTION: An open caisson body 1, being sunk on the bottom of the sea, is temporarily provided with a partition 2 isolating the upper part of the inside of the body 1 from the lower part. The partition 2 is constituted such that an internal pressure, produced through the dead weight of the body 1, is applied as a reaction force to the under surface of the partition 2, and the partition 2 consists of the partition body 2a and seal material 2b attached to the periphery of the body. The partition 2 is slidable along the inner surface of the body 1 and a wire cable 4, whose lower end is secured to the body 1, is inserted through the partition. This causes supporting of a reaction force applied to the partition 2 through the tension of the cable 4. The partition 2 is lowered through the operation of a jack 5 holding the cable 4, and is lifted upward with a jack 6 operated and by means of a steel rod 8.
