Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber-reinforced foamed formed product that is light and excellent in mechanical strength and machinability by filling a foamed material composition that contains glass fiber in a metallic mold to form a layer of foamed plastic inside of the mold by heating and then removing the not melted portion from the filling and heating it again. CONSTITUTION:A raw material composition 4 that consists of a certain ratio of chopped strand of galss fiber, powder or granules of thermo-plastic resin (for example, polyethylene, etc.), a foaming agent such as azo-dicarbon-amide, etc., and a stabilizer such as zinc stearate, etc. if needed, is well mixed and put in a metallic mold 1 from, for instance, a hopper 2 and the lids 3 is closed. The metallic mold 1 is placed and heated in a heating furnace up to 200-400 deg.C to form a skin wall 5 of the fiber-reinformed, foamed synthetic resin that is melted and sintered on the inner faces of the metallic mold 1, and those raw material compositions which were not melted are taken out and returned to the hopper 2. The inner face of the skin wall 5 is made smooth by reheating the metallic mold and the infrared light thrown from inside of the metallic mold 1. The formed product is taken out.
