Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce Al powder having properties meeting applications at a low cost by electrolyzing a molten salt electrolytic bath consisting essentially of AlCl3 at low temps. to deposit Al, mixing this with the inside of the electrolytic bath and filtering the same then refining this by filtration using a specific solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A molten salt electrolytic bath consisting essentially of AlCl3 is electrolyzed at low temps. to deposit Al on cathode. The deposited Al is separated from the electrode by circulating the electrolytic bath or giving impact to the electrode, and is mixed with the inside of the electrolytic bath. This mixture is filtered, whereby the cake-like Al stuck with the bath component as residual material on the filter film is obtained. Next, the residual materials are mixed in a solvent dissolving only the stuck bath components without dissolving the Al, and the mixture is agitated vigorously. After the agitation, the mixture is again filtered, whereby the second residual material is obtained. This is refined and dried, whereby Al powder is produced. In this method, the suitable Al powder meeting applications is obtained by controlling electrolytic conditions and electrolytic bath components.
