Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A width of a flow passage in at least one of a concentrating chamber and a diluting chamber of an electrodialysis apparatus, pref., in the diluting chamber is made narrower toward an outlet 4 in the order of a>b>c>d>d. Generally, a limit current density is propotional to a concn. of a liquid in the diluting chamber and lowered toward an outlet direction but, when a flow speed of a desalted liquid on a membrane surface becomes larger, the limit current density is also increased. Therefore, in the above described electrodialysis apparatus, because a flow speed of the liquid is increased toward the outlet 4 where a concn. of the chamber liquid becomes lower, the current density in the vicinity of the outlet is prevented from approaching to a limit and total current density can be increased.
