Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a phase modulated wave corresponding to the coming direction of a radio wave by synthetizing the output of several antennas arranged on one circumference through amplitude modulation with a low frequency signal at a phase angle corresponding to the position of the antennas.
CONSTITUTION: Four vertical dipole antennas AnWAe are arranged at an equispace on one circumference. The outputs of these antennas are applied to modulators MnWMe to effect a amplitude modulation with low frequency signals of TnWTe. The signals of TnWTe shall be deviated by 90° corresponding to the direction of the antennas. When the value of 2l is smaller enough than the wavelength λ, a carrier component To obtained from the synthetizing of the output of modulators MnWMe is the result of a phase modulation by a low frequency signal with a phase deviation of a certain value. So, the output is demodulated to determine a difference in the phase between the reference low frequency and the demodulation signal. This indicates the coming direction of the radio wave. In this method, any frequency received can be measured simply even when it varies in a wide range.
