Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the fiber longer in laser diodes, by operating a synthesized optical output by lowering each optical transmission output in the range that it is not lowered by the normal optical output at normal state, in a multiplex photo transmission section using laser diodes. CONSTITUTION:An input signal is branched to photo transmission sections E/01, E/02 and the same photo signal is transmitted. Each photo transmission consists of drive circuits DR1, DR2 and laser diodes LD1, LD2, and photo signal from the LD1, LD2 is synthesized at a photo coupler PC to transmit synthesized photo output. Normally, the LD1, LD2 make transmission with the photo output of 2/3 of the normal photo output and the synthesized photo output is 4/3 times the normal photo output. If the E/01 is infailure, the photooutput is lowered and 1/3 of the normal photo output, an alarm circuit AL1 detects it and control is made so that the E/02 can be restored to the normal photo output. Thus, even if the E/01 is lowered, the synthesized photo output assures the nomal photo output. Normally, since the photo output is lowered, the life of the LD1, LD2 can be made longer.
