Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a highly-reliable photo transmitter by putting a protection circuit into operation by alternating a photo switch by turning the photo transmitter of the protection circuit ON by operating a photo-switch changing over control circuit according to the output state of a photo receiver for monitor light. CONSTITUTION:An input electric signal applied to photo transmitter 2 of a main circuit is converted into a photo signal, which is reconverted into an electric signal by photo receiver 8 after passing through short fiber 4, monitoring photo distributor 12, short optical fiber 4, photo switch 15, and long fiber 6. Here, if LED of the main circuit would be damaged for some reason or other, the coupling efficiency of fiber 4 lowers and when monitor light is eliminated or reduced, photo-switch alternation control circuit 14 is put into operation according to the output state of monitor-light photo receiver 13 to turn photo transmitter 3 of the protective circuit ON, so that the protective circuit will operate with switch 15 alternated. Consequently, a highly-reliable photo transmitter can be obtained.
