Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a titled sealing device which performs sealing with extermely simple construction by bringing sealing plates which permit free adjustment of tension into contact with the outside cylinder of a rotary cylinder packed with catalysts thereby partitioning the inlet side and outlet side for the gas to be treated thoroughly. CONSTITUTION:Sealing plates 8 made of sheets of ordinary steel or the like are disposed in the clearance parts (c), (d) between a casing 5 and the outside cylinder 2 of a rotary cylinder 1 packed with catalysts 4. One end of the plates 8 is fixed to the projecting part 9 on the casing 5 side and the other end is conducted in contact with the outside circumferential surface of the cylinder 2 and is connected to the leading end of the screw shafts 11 mounted to the casing 5 side. The shafts 11 serve also as tension bars, and nuts 12 are screwed to the outer ends thereof. Springs 13 are loaded between the nuts 12 and the casing 5. Hence, the repulsive force of the springs 13 can be adjusted by rotating the nuts 12 to adjust the tension to be applied upon the plates 8, so that despite the elongation or contraction of the plates 8 it is absorbed sufficiently by the elastic force of the springs 13. Here, 3 in the figure denotes an inside cylinder, 6 an inlet for gas and 7 on outlet for gas, respectively.
