Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a titled sealing device which is not affected by the rotation of a rotary cylinder and by the change in clearances owing to temp. differences by providing a sealing device which is given with force in the direction of packing clearances at all times by means of an elastic member, between a rotary cylinder and a casing. CONSTITUTION:A sealing device 8 consisting of fitting an outer casing 8a and an inner casing 8b of a U shape in section freely slidably is provided in the clearance parts (c), (d) between a casing 5 and the outside cylinder 2 of a rotary cylinder 1 packed with catalysts 4. The outside circumferential surface (f) of the casing 8a has the curvature similar to that of the inside circumferential surface of the casing 5, and the inside circumferential surface (e) of the casing 8b has the same curvature as that of the cylinder 2. A cushion material 9 having sufficient elastic force is packed between the casing 8a and the casing 8b. Hence, force is applied upon the casing 8a and the casing 8b by the material 9 in the mutually parting directions and therefore despite the change in the spacings of the clearances (c), (d), they can follow up the change, thereby providing sufficient sealing effect. Here, 3 in the figure denotes an inside cylinder, 6 a gas inlet and 7 a gas outlet respectively.
