Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to pour a large amount of liquid He without substantial loss, by adopting a metod in which, while a transfer tube is still warm, the He gas coming out of the tube outlet is discharged to the outside of the cryostat whereas, when the transfer tube is cooled sufficiently, the He is poured into the cryostat. CONSTITUTION:The main body 1 of the device for additionally pouring liquid He is provided at its upper end with a hole 3 for receiving a transfer tube 2 and at its lower end with a hole 4 for attaching a stop valve which is normally biased in the closing direction by a spring. At the same time, a gas discharge port 6 is formed at an upper lateral side portion of the main body. This main body 1 is fixed to the flange 7 of a cryostat such that the discharge port 6 is exposed to the outside. The tube 2 has not been cooled sufficiently in the period immediately after the start of pouring, so that the He is evaporated to become a gas 8 which is purged through the port 6. The rate of purge of the warm gas 8 is not so large because it has not contacted with the He liquid surface 9. Then, after the tube 2 is cooled sufficiently, the valve 5 is opened to permit the pouring of the liquid He 10.
