Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal light bulb of high responce by adding a specific optical active agent to a nematic liquid crystal that produces dielectric relaxation at low frequency and applying a signal of the higher (fh) and lower (fl) frequency than crossing frequency (fc) with switching over. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 14 which is added with 0.5-10wt% an optical active agent such as 4-(2-methyl isobutyl)-4'-cyano Bi-phenyl to a nematic liquid crystal having the fc not greater than 100Hz at normal temperature when its dielectric anisotropy comes to 0 is sealed between substrates 11, 12 to which horizontal orientations cutting to each other at right angles have been applied, and a polarizing plate whose polarizing planes cut to each other at right angles is provided outside the substrates 11, 12. For liquid crystal components, the synchronization of the spiral particle array is to be within the range between 1/3-2 times of the interval between the both substrate 11 and 12. Through applying the fl as a write cycle alternately with fh every specied period for between the electrodes for displays 17, 17-1, 17-2 and a common electrode 16, the deivce is made suitable for a write device for optical printer as a high speed light bulb.
