Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the amt. of feeder heads and improve the yield of casting considerably by applying gaseous pressure upon the feeder head surface in die-casting castings by utilizing the feeder heads.
CONSTITUTION: In die-casting a crank shaft, etc., its shape is slender, and run defect and shrinkage are liable to occur. Since a large amt. of feeder heads larger than the weight of product is used, the yield of molten metal is exceedingly low. In order to improve this, airways 6a, 6b are airtightly mounted to the feeder head parts 5a, 5b communicating with a casting cavity for forming product part and are further connected to a gaseous pressure feed part via reducing valves 8a, 8b. Molten metal is teemed into such molds, and 0.5W5kg/cm2 gaseous pressure is applied to the feeder heads 5a, 5b, whereby the occurrence of run defect an shrinkage is prevented. The amt. of the feeder heads is decreased condiderably by substituting the pressurizing force by the feeder head weight in the case of gravity casting with gaseous pressure.
