Abstract

PURPOSE:A transparent cosmetic that is made by solubilizing an oily substance in an aqueous system using 18-alpha-glycyrrhizin, thus acting on skins mildly to give good feeling and showing good flowability and high storage stability. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic contains, as major components, 0.001- 10wt% of 18-alpha-glycyrrhizin such as 18-alpha-glycyrrhyzic acid, 0.0001-1.0wt% of an oily substance such as perfume or higher aliphatic hydrocarbon such as liquid paraffin and 50-99wt% of water. The addition of an appropriate amount of alcohol (30wt%) gives refresh feeling and increases the drying speed and the solubilization performance of 18-alpha-glycyrrhizin. When 18-alpha-glycryrrhizin is used as a solubilizer for an oily substance in an aqueous cosmetic, it never causes the reduction in solubilization power and the gelation under any pH conditions and gives a transparent cosmetic with higher solubilizing power as the pH becomes lower, that is, cleansing lotion or astringent lotion.
