Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain electrolyte-preservation matrix for a fuel cell which is excellent in its properties of electrolyte preservation and strength, by mixing a fluorine polymer suspension and an inorganic material, heating this mixture, and adding methanol etc. to fibrate this polymer. CONSTITUTION:Polytetra-fluoro-ethylene suspension is mixed into inorganic compound powder such as silicon carbide and this mixture is heated. Then, methanol and ethanol are added therein to destroy micelle and to fibrate the polytetrafluoroethylene acting as a binder. Methanol etc. and moisture are removed by heating. Water is added to this mixture and blended, to mold the mixture in a desired sheet shape. Electrolyte-preservation matrix having excellent hydrophilic property, good electrolyte-preservation property, sufficient mechanical stregth and capacity of greatly improving cell properties can be obtained by the above method.
