Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide stable availability of a heat negative electrode for long huors, under the condition of the poor vacuum by forming each of the cone angle of the tip of hexaboromide single crystal and radius of curvature of its apex in each special configuration. CONSTITUTION:The tip of hexaboromide single crystal having the crystal structure of calcium hexaboromide type is used for the negative electrode of a physical and chemical device using electron beam. As the hexaboromide single crystal, the one of Sr, B6, BaB6, etc. and of <100>, <110>, <210>, etc. as crystal orientation is used. The configuration of a negative electrode tip is formed by a single crystal up with a conic angle in the range of 40 deg.-120 deg. and 20-80mum radius of curvature at its apex. Thereby, even under the poor vacuum, it takes a long time for the development of a corner line to reach the peak value and it is possible to maintain good beam stability because the apex of the negative electrode is round.
