Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the durability of a magnetic head, by sliding the magnetic head in contact with a magnetic card on the forward motion and moving the head through detaching from the card on the backward motion. CONSTITUTION:The reader consists of a main body 31 having support plates 34a, 34b to support a card 1 having magnetic stripes 1a, holde 32 having a pressing member 45 contacted with the main body 31 with friction and depressing the card 1 on the main body 31, and a mobile body 42 contacting the holder 32 with friction and holding a magnetic head 8. At the beginning of forward motion in which the mobile body 42 is moved from one end to another end of the card 1, the main body 31 and the holder 32 are slided to contact the magnetic head 8 with the card 1, and at the beginning of backward motion, the main body 31 and the holder 32 are slided to detach the magnetic head 8 from the card 1.
