Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect that the amount of floating of a magnetic head exceeds the range of suited amount, by detecting the change in a static capacitance between a slider surface and a disc surface. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 7 are provided at four corners of a surface 5a of a slider 5, and the change in a static capacitance CD between the electrodes 7 and a surface 16a of a magnetic disc 16 can be detected at a static capacitance detection converter 9 respectively. Each converter 9 outputs an output VS corresponding to the amount of floating a magnetic head 2, that is, the amount of change in the floating H, of a slider 2. The output is compares with an upper limit VH and a lower limit VL of the amount of floating at each comparator 20. As a result, if the amount of floating exceeds a suitable amount range, the comparator 20 transmits an alarm signal to a failure detector 22. Further, the detector 22 outputs a detection signal S1 when one alarm signal is inputted to it. Thus, the amount of floating of the magnetic head which exceeds a range of suitable amount can be detected.
