Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a highly uniformly film of which various physical properties are balanced in a longitudinal and traverse directions by forcedly advancing the film in such a condition that only central narrow part of the longitudinally and traversely oriented film is gripped by nip rolls while both side ends of said film is gripped. CONSTITUTION:In preparing a biaxially oriented film by a method wherein a thermoplastic polyester film (e.g.; a polyethylene terephthalate film or the like) uniaxially oriented to a longitudinal direction is oriented to a traverse direction by a tenter and, further, subjected to heat treatment, while both sides ends of the film after traverse orientation is completed are gripped by a gripping means of the tenter, only a narrow part in the vicinity of a central part of the film is gripped by nip rollers to impart advancement drive action to said central part of the film and, thereby, a process so as to forcedly advance said central part is added. By adding said process, bowing phenomenon can be eliminated (or reduced) and the biaxially oriented polyester film with uniform physical properties is obtained.
