Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the luminous intensity distribution characteristics of head- lights of a car easily and securely by converting a distributed pattern optical image formed on a screen into an electric signal by an image desector TV camera. CONSTITUTION:Headlights 2, equipped on a car, are turned on to irradiate a screen 4 with their light. A luminous intensity distribution pattern formed by its reflected light is photodetected by an image desector TV camera 10 having a wide dynamic range, and photoelectrons corresponding to the optical image are reflected under the command of an arighmetic controller 13 to be multiplied successively. Then, the multiplied electrons are counted by a photon counting part 11 to be converted into an electric signal which corresponds to the luminous intensity distribution, and it is compared by a control part 13 with a reference illuminance electric signal obtained by a standard light source 15. For the calibration of the measured value, a position reference light source 18 is used. This constitution facilitates and secures the measurements of the luminous intensity characteristics of the headlights of the car.
