Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an immobilized physiologically active substance usable preferably in an aqueous medium and an organic solvent, having improved moldability, by aminating an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, followed by immobilizing a physiologically active substance to the aminated copolymer by a covalent bond.
CONSTITUTION: An ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer comprising 20W97wt%, preferably 40W95wt% vinyl acetate unit, having ≥80mol% saponified vinyl acetate unit, is reacted with an aminating agent containing a functional group capable of reacting with the hydroxyl group of the copolymer and an amino group or nitro group, e.g., P-nitrobenzaldehyde, γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, etc. The existing nitro group is reduced into an amino group to prepare an aminated polymer, and a physiologically active substance, e.g., enzyme, coenzyme, hormone, etc. is linked to the aminated copolymer through the amino group by a covalent bond.
