Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent partial consumption of an electrode by providing a fine wire or a fine fragment having electric potential more noble than that of an electrode material contained in said electrode material to always keep an electrode surface clean.
CONSTITUTION: Into a sacrificial electrode material, a fine wire or a fine fragment having electric potential more noble than that of said electrode material and being relatively meltable in a working enviroment is contained. For example, industrial Zn is melted in a crucible furnace and an appropriate amount of a lens shaped flake of a 18-8 stainless steel is added in the molten zinc and, after sufficient stirring, said molten zinc is poured in a metal mold and rapidly cooled therein. The sacrificial electrode is fabricated from the resulting material. Further, orientation of the fine wire or the fine fragment is selected corresponding to use and a surface of the electrode is always kept clean by hydrodynamical action, electrochemical action, peeling characteristics or the like.
