Abstract

PURPOSE:To accelerate cooling a steel strip and to suppress the oxidation of an uncoated surface, by forming a coating inhibitor layer composed of carbon powder on the surface of the steel strip expected not to be coated, carrying the masked steel strip through a coating bath, and then spraying an atomized liquid onto the coating inhibitor layer. CONSTITUTION:A soot layer 6 is formed on the surface of a steel strip 1 expected not to be coated, by incomplete combustion flame 6 from a masking burner 7 or the like. The masked steel strip is carried through a coating melt bath 4, e.g. zinc or the like. An atomized liquid, e.g. water or the like, is then sprayed onto the uncoated surface of the steel strip 1 from a spray nozzle 9 arranged just above the coating melt bath 4, to cool the steel strip 1. At this time, evaporating gas is sucked by a blower 13 or the like and exhausted outside the system. The cooled steel strip 1 is pickled with an acid in an acid-pickling bath 15, and then washed with water in a water-washing vessel 16, to remove a small amount of scales and excess soot. According to this method, a beautiful complete single surface-plated steel strip can be obtained.
