Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance of an Fe-Si alloy useful as a core of magnetic head without deteriorating its magnetic property, by adding Ti and a platinum-group element into the Fe-Si alloy.
CONSTITUTION: A low-alloyed iron material containing 4.5W8.5%, of Si, 0.1W 7.0% of Ti and 0.05W5.0% in total of one or more platinum-group elements such as Pd, Ru, Pt, etc. is used as the magnetic alloy for the core of a magnetic head which will slide in contact with a record medium such as a magnetic tape, magnetic card or the like. Owing to the components, the magnetic alloy for the core of the head excellent in wear resistance, endurance and magnetic property can be obtained.
