Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the presence or absence of any hanging products in a blast furnace, their position, thickness, etc. by inserting a thermometer through the through- hole of the furnace wall, and detecting the periodic fluctuations of the measured values thereof owing to raw material charging periods.
CONSTITUTION: A thermometer 3 is inserted into the through-hole penetrating through a shell 2 and a furnace wall 1. In the blast furnace, charged coke layers 7 and ore layers 8 form laminar states alternately, and descned successively. Grain sizes and heat capacities differ respectively with ore and coke; the temp. of the coke is higher than that of the ore. Hence, the temp. measured with the thermometer 3 shows periodic fluctuations. If hanging products 9 are generated on the furnace wall and the leading end of the thermometer 3 buries in the hanging products 9, the periodic change annihilates and therefore, the presence of the scaffoldings 9 can be detected. It is also possible to detect the thickness of the hanging products 9 by determining the projecting length of the thermometer 3 from the surface of the wall 1.
