Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a turbulent flow from unevenly collecting to one side of a sub-combustion chamber and produce uniform distribution of a mixture throughout a total area of said chamber, by providing a sub-communication hole, communicating main and sub-combustion chambers, in the opposite side to a main communication hole generating the turbulent flow in the sub-combustion chamber at the compression stroke of a piston.
CONSTITUTION: At the compression stroke of a piston 3, a lift flow from a main combustion chamber 4 flows into a sub-combustion chamber 5 to the tangential direction B from a main communication hole 9 to produce a turbulent flow, and fuel is injected to this turbulent flow from a nozzle 6. At this time, the injected fuel is partially scattered by the turbulent flow or centrifugal force and collected to a left side internal wall part 16 in the sub-combustion chamber 5. Here an opening part 14a at the upper end of a sub-communication hole 14 appears and is provided to the left side internal wall part 16 to flow a lift flow C into the sub-combustion chamber 5 from the sub-communication hole 14. In this way, fuel in the above described left side internal wall part 16 is mixed with the lift flow C from the sub-communication hole 14 to obtain a resultant flow D, and the flow D is allowed to flow together with the lift flow B from the main communication hole 9, then a mixture in the sub- combustion chamber 5 can be formed to a uniform state.
