Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for a durg and an agricultural chemical inexpensively, easily and in high yield, by heating a novel inexpensive 4-amino-1,2-butanediol to be synthesized readily as a raw material in the presence of an inexpensive catalyst of a metal oxide or metal sulfate.
CONSTITUTION: A novel 4-amino-1,2-butanediol as a raw material is heated in the oresence of a metal oxide (e.g., alumina, silica, etc.) or metal sulfate (e.g., magnesium sulfate, aluminum sulfate, etc.), to give 3-pyrrolidinol. The reaction is carried out under reduced pressure at 200W300°C. 4-Amino-1,2-bitanediol as the raw material can be synthesized from allyl cyanide through 3-cyano-1,2-propanediol in high yield.
